Bet on the US to come through with a victory. They are looking for a clear victory tomorrow after getting screwed in their last match against Slovenia.

As for England, I would also take them to be victorious. Unlike France they will not fold and Slovenia is more likely to play for a draw, which will end up in them conceding a goal at some point.

I love Thanksgiving. Not just for the food, but for the great football games. There are some great rivalry football games and I think perhaps that plays into this week. Florida and Alabama play cupcakes, but Texas is taking on Kansas and they are 4 TD favorites. Now Kansas has lost 5 in a row and there has been some controversy this week about their coach being too tough on players (I don't know much about this, but sounds like players are just getting their feelings hurt, but I think they come out here fighting. Fighting for a bowl game, fighting for their coach, and they will keep it close against Texas.

As much as I want Quinn to do well and be a good QB (he might with a couple TD passes tonight), Baltimore is just too much for Cleveland. Week 6 Picks

Happy Saturday Morning to you,

Well it has been a couple weeks and ND's defense has still not shown up. We got a bye this week, which is probably a good thing since I got some finals to study for and I need a weekend off of watching the game come down to the last drive of the game. It is almost my birthday and my heart just can't take it the same say I used to. So as much as this week off is helping the team it is really helping me out. Maybe I should send them my finals schedule for the rest of my time in school so they can plan their games accordingly?

For those of you keeping track I am now 11-14 (.440)

With all that other stuff out of the way let's get down to business.

College Ball:

Auburn -2.5 at Arkansas (11:00)- The only thing I don't like about this game is the time. I am a little concerned about Auburn traveling and having to play a morning game, but their offense should able to put up at least 35 and their defense hold the Hogs to below 30. Looking forward to the Iron Bowl this year.

West Virginia -10 at Syracuse (11:00)- WVA's only loss of the year came against Auburn, who is turning out to be a decent team this year (see above pick). Meanwhile the Orange(men) of Syracuse are improved from last year, but they still don't have what it takes to hang with Mountaineers. West Virginia takes this one by at least 2 TDs.

Alabama -4.5 at Ole Miss (14:30)- Ole Miss is good, but not that good. I have watched a couple of their games this season and every time I just don't see a team that should be in the Top 15. Too inconsistent, lack of big plays, just leaves you wanting more. I really don't understand how this line is below a touchdown? Perhaps because it is at Ole Miss the books are giving them 3 points, but I think even 'Bama away needs to give away more points than this to make it close. FREE MONEY PICK OF THE WEEK.

Indiana +6.5 at Virginia (14:30)- Virginia is coming off their first win of the year, after losses to William & Mary and Southern Mississippi and also returning home after two away games, but they will still have a hard time against IU. The Hoosier's should have beat that team up north (Michigan) and they even put up 14 against OSU. If Doss plays well for IU today, they take the game and if has an average game they cover the spread. Good bet here.

Pro Ball:

Pittsburgh -10.5 at Detroit (12:00)- Luckily the Lions got their win a couple weeks ago because with the injuries they have and the Steelers coming to town they just don't stand a chance. Roethlisberger scores at least 3 TDs and win this going away.

San Francisco -2.5 and Over 40.5 vs. Atlanta (15:05)- Finally Crabtree signs, but this has nothing to do with this game. San Fran at home is a tough game. They are playing great so far and I think even without Gore they can still put up points and the defense will hold Atlanta.

Well sorry for the little break I took. Things got a little hectic at school and then I went up to ND to witness a pathetic looking defense, but hey a win is a win (even though we loss Floyd). Oh well. I'm back this week and since it is already Saturday morning I will get right to the picks.

College Ball:

LSU -12 at Mississippi St. (11:20 central)-I don't think LSU is the same team with Les Miles in place, but they're still decent enough to take on the Bulldogs from Mississippi with ease.
Wake Forest +1.5 at Boston College (1:00 central)- This is Wake's first away game this season, but they handle this in stride. It will be a close game and I just think Wake has better players to outlast BC. Should be a good one to watch if you got the time.
Pittsburgh +1 at NC State (2:30 central)- NC State is not that good. Pitt took on Navy last week and played good defense against them. NC State has a bunch of players out for the season/injured/suspended. Pitt wins this outright. FREE MONEY PICK OF THE WEEK.
TCU +2.5 at Clemson (2:30 central)- I know TCU is not the greatest team out there, but how are they getting points against Clemson?????? Are people serious? I feel like there is something I don't know, but this should be easy money here. Clemson hit with the flu a little bit, TCU still hungry for respect. Horned Frogs roll here with another win. I say take the money line.
Auburn -32.5 vs. Ball St. (6:00 central)- Got to admit I was not really happy when Auburn hired Chizik, but he has this offense clicking and they will be looking for another easy blowout win before they start their SEC games. They win by 40.
Houston +1 vs.Texas Tech (8:15 central)- Tech showed some good stuff last week when they took on Texas, but after such a big game like that down in Austin they are in for a let down. Houston meanwhile beat Oklahoma St. then had a week to relax, heal and prep for Tech. They win outright and perhaps enter the top 20 next week?
Washington +8.5 at Stanford (8:00 central)- This is perhaps the most amazing team for me this season. They go win less last season and now already have 2 wins under their belt, one coming against USC. They are still pumped. They will give Stanford a fit and if they don't win the game they will lose within one score (TD or field goal).

Professional Ball

NY Giants -6.5 at Tampa Bay (12:00 central)- The Giants played terrible last week and still got a win against the Boys. Even if they play that badly (which I doubt) they will still cover the spread here. Probably easiest NFL money of the week.
Pittsburgh -3.5 at Cincinnati (3:15 central)- Cincy showed they can actually play some football last week against Green Bay, but against Pitt's defense they will struggle Pitt wins by at least a TD.
Arizona -2.5 vs. Indianapolis (7:20)- Larry and Warner will take on Manning. A good Monday night game, but 'Zona will take the victory at home here.

Well there you have them. 10 good picks and hopefully you can use them in some way. For those of you keeping track I had a rough week two weeks ago. I am now 7-8 (below .500) for the season, but I feel good about this weekend. Have a good rest of the weekend.

First Full Week of College and NFL

Welcome to the first full week of college and NFL football. The first week of college ball was very entertaining and needless to say I was very, very excited to see Notre Dame pitch the only shutout in the top 25! Besides that gamer, there were a lot of good games to watch. I kind of feel bad for Bradford, but then again I kind of feel like there was no reason why he is playing for OU. He probably left a few million on the table and scared a lot of NFL scouts away, but I hope he makes a speedy recovery. Well, enough about that.

Results:
Last week I went 4-2 and won my Free Money Pick of the Week when Mississippi took down Memphis. I was also impressed with Baylor and their outright win.

College Picks:

Nebraska -21 vs. Arkansas St. (1:00 central) - The Huskers might not be the team they once were and Arkansas St. won 61-0 last week, but I still believe there is no way Nebraska lets this one get anywhere close. I think the Indians will put up a fight for a little bit, then Nebraska will take over and roll to an easy win. I think the worst you can do here is push.
TCU-11 at Virginia (2:30 central) - This is the season opener for the Horny Toads. They will be hungry to get started after having to sit and watch last weekend. One of the games I bet they watched was Virginia lose to William & Mary?! How does that happen? This is my Free Money Pick of the Week. Free money right here, come and get it.
Notre Dame -3 at Michigan (2:30 central) - Yes, I am quite a big Irish fan, but come on. ND blanks Nevada last weekend, a team that has serious offensive threat and then we are only favored by 3? I know it is at the Big House, but Clausen is a junior and played there before. Plus you think Rich Rod really has his team working overtime to get ready for the Irish? doubt it.
BYU -18 at Tulane (2:30 central) - I am not just calling this game because BYU beat OU last week. I believe they are really a good team. Good enough to play like Tulsa and beat the Green Wave by more than 20.
USC -7 at Ohio St. (7:00 central) - I don't think I have to give you a rundown of OSU's struggles against other highly ranked teams in the recent past. The last time these teams met, USC won by 32. I think it will be closer this time, but still more than 1 TD. Pryor still has a lot to learn and USC just has too much for him.
North Carolina -4 at UCONN (11:00 central) - This is probably my weakest pick. I truly think NC is better than UCONN, but it is hard to say it is 'free money'. I think it is a good bet, but do your own research and see if you like it.

NFL Picks:

Cincinnati -4.5 vs. Denver (12:00 central) - Cincinatti is decent. Not great, but good enough to take down a team like Denver. Carson's leg is fine for week 1. I am ok with Cincy for now, but later on in the season I will have my doubts.
Chicago +3.5 at Green Bay (7:20 central) - Cutler and the Bears go to Lambeau and take an outright win from the Pack.
New England -10.5 vs. Buffalo (6:00 central Monday) - It kind of concerns me that Brady is only 'probable' for this week...wait, never mind, Belichick is still the coach and he likes to play little games like this. Fine let him have his fun, but we all know that Brady is fine and they will go on to win by 2 TDs or so.

Well there you have it. 4-2 on the season looking to improve. Good luck out there and enjoy the games (that's what it's all about anyway).

The 2009 Edition

Welcome to the 2009 season everyone. Hope you all had a good winter, spring and summer. In some ways I can't believe football is here, yet in other ways I can't believe it took this long. I'm back in the US of A now, got my HD TV all setup and am ready to go. Now all I got to do is make some free money picks, buy some beer, burgers, maybe some a brat, and get after it. As you know in the past I will put some "Free Money Picks" up here almost every week. In the past my postings have been,... well not consistent. I am hoping they will be better now that I am back in same time zone and all.

Well without further delay here are my picks for the first full weekend of football. This week I will obviously focus on college because the professional league is still trying to cut their rosters to 53 people. The first week of college ball is always very difficult to pick because teams schedule cupcakes, spreads can get up into the 40s and really we do not know how the team will perform except for some practice videos on the web and other hype by ESPN and others. This week I like to play with home teams and also stay with games where the spread is under 4 touchdowns, because you just never know how long the 1st team will stay in. On Thursday night there were 5 games with spreads and totals up. There were 4 unders, 3 dogs winning outright (with spreads at +5, +7, and +16), 1 dog covering the spread, 1 favorite covering, and 1 O/U push. What does this tell us about the games coming up? Probably not too much, although I am tempted to stick with unders while the offenses are trying to sync up and get in a rhythm. Anyway, here are the picks:

Baylor +2.5 at Wake Forest (2:30 central) - Yes, Baylor went 4-8 last year, but they played a great schedule last year (6 top 25 teams), Sophomore Griffin is returning at QB, and they are returning a lot of the players from last year when they could have easily turned those losses into wins. I think with experience they will learn how to win instead of losing a close one. Wake is suspect on defense and I think this will be a decently high scoring affair with the Bears from Waco pulling it out.
Oklahoma St. -4.5 vs. Georgia (2:30 central) - I think that both of these teams may be overrated at this point, but I think the game being played at OSU at Pickens' new stadium will have the players and fans going crazy for this great season opener. Both teams will be good this season, but not thinking Top 15 here. I say it will be close, but OSU takes it by a TD.
UAB -6 vs. Rice (3:00 central) - Rice had a great season in 2008, but a few of there biggest producers are gone. This one is on the road, UAB is returning a lot of players, sit back watch the points pile up and UAB take it by 10 or more.
LSU -17.5 at Washington (9:30 central) - I am a little bit scared because Washington got rid of Willingham and that has to do nothing but help your program out when they get something to drink besides chocolate milk and some actual plays in the playbook, but I just cant see this one being close. It is going to be awhile until Washington can compete with a program like LSU. Take the Tigers in this one.
Mississippi -17 at Memphis (2:30 central Sunday) - Ole Miss is coming off a great season, returning some great players, and I think they are just too much to handle for Memphis right off the bat. Leaning on this one being my FREE MONEY PICK OF THE WEEK.
Notre Dame/Nevada Over 62 (2:30 central) - What can I say. I am really, really, really tempted to throw ND -14 in there (having a hard time finding 14 pts right now), but it is the first game and I am trying not to let my heart interfere. That being said, I think the Over is the play here. ND is returning a great QB/WR group and should be able to hang some points on Nevada and I think the ND defense has a lot to prove. Looking for a 42ish to 24ish Irish Victory here.

Penn St. -24.5 vs. Michigan. Michigan was always going to be in for a tough season, but this is getting ugly. Penn St. will not let off the pedal. I expect them to take this by at least 4 touchdowns at home.
Texas -4.5 vs. Missouri. Colt "45" McCoy and compay are riding high after putting away OU last weekend. They return to Austin, TX and will want to show the home crowd what they are made of.
Over 44 in the LSU-South Carolina game. I think LSU will take this one, but it will be close and high scoring.
Texas Tech -21 at Texas A&M. Also, leaning toward the over here.

NFL

Dallas -7 at St. Louis.
New York Jets -3 at Oakland
Over 35 in the Pittsburgh-Cincinatti game.

This is not about Lehman, Morgan, Goldman, or any of the other big professional gambling houses that are collapsing after losing major bets. I kind of feel like is it LTCM all over again and no one really knows what they are betting on and how much it is worth. Everybody has a side of a bet, but they don't really know much about it. Did nobody really learn when LTCM went belly up (or is it belly-up?).

Anyway enough about Wall St. "One thing is for sure" (borrowing a line from my Belgian friend), you will not be successful if you don't do your homework! I have been in India for the better part of this week and not really been able to give this the attention it needs, but I am not letting that stop me. Come on 6s and 8s! Let's go to the craps table:

College

East Carolina -7 at NC State. Yes I am going back to the Pirates. The ECU offense is averaging over 100 more than the Wolfpack and their defense is holding opponents to more than 100 yards less than them too! I feel you can't get anything less than a push here. Good risk to take.
Central Florida +10.5 at Boston College. If Central Florida can make it a close game against SoFla last week then they can at least keep it close against BC. FYI (Central Florida was out gained by South Florida by 278 yards).
Florida -7.5 at Tennessee. I am not quite sure what to say. I just don't see Tenn. keeping it close.
Vanderbilt +7 at Ole Miss. Can Vandy make it to a bowl game for the first time since 1984?
Wake Forest +4.5 at Florida St. FSU will find out this weekend it is not a top 25 team.

NFL

Over 51 in the Dallas/Green Bay game. I like offense.
Atlanta -5.5 vs. Kansas City.

Um...I'm sorry. Week 2 kicked my A$$.

What a week alright; a week to forget! I followed up my opening weekend with a pathetic 2-6 (2 wins, 6 losses). This puts me at 7-8 for the season in week 2. Could someone please tell me how ND only put up 21 against SDSU? How did South Florida blow that kind of lead late in the game? I think someone should investigate why Urban Suckmeyer kicked the late (very late) field goal against Miami!

OK I will stop complaining now. There is no use to it. You can (and should) learn from it and move on. So without further delay here are my picks for this week. These were made after I learned from week 2; I am not sure what the hell that means, but take it for what it's worth.

College

California -14 at Maryland. This line opened up at 11.5 and has now been moved to 14. I suggest you back the team who beat Washington St. last wee 66-3 and not the team who lost to Middle Tenn. St. 14-24 and only put up 14 against Delaware. Cal beat Michigan St. to start the season and I expect them to roll to 3-0 here against the Terps.
UCLA +8 at BYU. The refs at the BYU-Washington game obviously did something very wrong according to the Mormons and were trying to right themselves by giving out a stupid penalty to let them win. I hope for their part it worked, because that was the most bassackwards asinine call I have seen this year (it is only week 2 and I expect there to be a lot more of these during the season). UCLA beat Tennessee week 1 then had a week off to prepare for BYU. This will be BYU's first big test of the season. No way they cover this by more than a TD. Tempted to take them on the money line.
Auburn -10 at Mississippi St. Last year the Bulldogs came into Auburn and beat the Tigers/Eagles straight up. Auburn remembers this. They will seek revenge and putting up at least 4 touchdowns and holding Miss St. to 14 points or less.
East Carolina -13 at Tulane. I know it seems like I am jumping on the bandwagon here with this pick, but I hey when i see free money i have to point it out. East Carolina has come into 2008 with something to prove. I think coach Holtz the younger is doing a great job and will keep the team balanced and emotions in check. The Pirates (which is a cool mascot) will stay disciplined and beat Tulane for the third year in a row. They cover, but not so easily.
Vanderbilt -8 vs. Rice. Rice pulled out a victory over Memphis and I give them props for that. Good come from behind win and they are 2-0! I have been riding the Vandy gravy train this season so far (2-0 ATS) and I think they will make it 3 wins against the spread tomorrow against Rice.

NFL

Green Bay -3 at Detroit. It is amazing. How do the Lions always disappoint. Season after season. All I can hope for is making some money off of them.
Pittsburgh-6.5 at Cleveland. Pitt has won that last 9 meetings between these two teams, while covering the spread in all but two (one loss, one push). The Steelers move to 2-0. Unfortunately, it will be the exact opposite for the Browns here; 0-2.

Well there you have it folks. This weekend I am definitely going to watch the Michigan-Notre Dame game and of course the USC-Ohio St. game. A game I am also interested in is the Oregon-Purdue game. No I am not a fan of big drums or crazy uniforms, but I want to see what each team is made of. Tempted to take Oregon (-8) and the over (60.5), but i will hold off until I see what PU is made of.

I hope everyone enjoyed their first weekend of college ball and was lucky enough to make some dough if that is your style. I had a pretty decent weekend when I was picking the games; however, I got killed in my friendly pools where the games are given to you.

This weekend the Irish open up the 2008 season against San Diego State. Last week the Aztecs got beat by Cal Poly 27-29. Cal Poly rushed for 263 yards on 5.2 yards per carry. Unbeleivable. Coach Weis says the Irish are going to pound the ball this year and with three talented backs, I don't see any reason why ND can't put up at least 350-400 yards rushing against SDSU and several TDs. Furthermore, five defensive linemen for SDSU went down with injuries in the game. If ND fails to win by more than 10, we'll be in for a long season.

This weekend I am looking forward to the West Virginia-East Carolina game. I think this will be a good game and if the weather turns bad on Pat White this might be closer than the experts think (sorry). I am also looking forward to the Stanford-Arizona St. game. I am kind of thinking upset here. The Sun Devils need to be on guard!

OK here are your Free Money Picks for this weekend.
College

BYU -9 at Washington. Willingham is desperate for a win, but it will not come here. He won't even come close here.
Over 42.5 SDSU at Notre Dame. IF Cal Poly can put up 29 on SDSU, I think ND alone should cover the over. Given that ND's defense has been a little suspect we can bank on SDSU scoring at least a couple times. Easy money here.
South Florida -13.5 at Central Florida. Don't get me wrong I like George O'Leary, but he does not have the horses here to keep up with the Bulls. South Florida takes it by at least two touchdowns.
Miami +23 at Florida. If I told you Miami has beaten Florida the last 6 times they played would you believe me? Well they have and they covered the spread in 5 of those contests. Given they have not played since 2004, but I think Miami will be up for this game and at least keep it within 3 Tds.
Texas -26.5 at Texas-El Paso. There is a lot of hype in El Paso for this game, but they were beaten by Buffalo (not the Bills) by 25 last week. I am not saying Buffalo is a bad team (they will probably beat Pitt this week), but Texas is better than Buffalo and should easily roll in week 2 again.

NFL

New York Jets -3 at Miami. Not picking this because Favre. Picking because the Dolphins are still bad.
Detroit -3 at Atlanta. A rookie QB in week 1. I dont like it.
San Diego -9 against Carolina. San Diego starts there march towards the playoffs. Let's hope LT stays healthy and they keep covering lines.

Opening weekend is finally here!

I miss college, but at least I can watch college football almost anywhere in the world these days. Well opening weekend is here and I am already on the plus side for the season (Thank you Wake Forest and Vanderbilt!). I am still working on some more picks, but i have some sure winners you might want to include in your picks this weekend.

The first week of college football is excitingly unpredictable. A lot of teams are playing I-AA teams, or teams that probably should be I-AA, and this results in spreads that can be 4,5 or even 6 touchdowns! I tend to shy away from anything over 4 touchdowns. There is just not enough history with these teams to know what will happen. Will New England University come out, play their first string the entire time and put up 100 against The Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too University (aka Boston College.....just joking)??? Anyway, there are just too many unknowns. Don't play games with more than a 4 touchdown spread and try and stay away from the super hyped up teams who have not down anything for the past two years.

Ok, enough; here are my picks for the 1st weekend of college football.

Texas -23.5 against Florida Atlantic. Texas always comes to ready to play and I am especially excited about their new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. Get ready for a high scoring affair here in Austin. I admit, I am also a little intrigued by the over/under of 65.5, but that seems a little high for me.
Illinois +8.5 against Missouri in St. Louis. I think this early season match up of two teams coming off good seasons last year will provide for a good, close match. Zook has been recruiting like mad and I am long on Illinois for the season.
Auburn -26 against Louisiana-Monroe. Since the year 2000, Auburn has played them 3 times (02,03, and 04). Each time they beat them by at least 31 points. The spread was 35,37, and 36 respectively. Auburn will come out again this season and beat them by at least 4 touchdowns. This one did get close to my 4 touchdown rule!!
Over 43 in the Southern Cal/Virginia match up. I really wanted to go with Virginia +19 (maybe even on the money line), but I don't feel good about that one so I am going to take the over here and think these two teams will put up more than just 7 TDs between them.
Over 51.5 in the Wisconsin/Akron game. The weather is still good this time of the year and opening games always have lots of points. Badgers win, both teams score at least 3 touchdowns.
Louisville -3.5 against Kentucky. They may not be the same Louisville we have known the past few years, but they will do enough to beat Kentucky by more than 4.
TCU -6.5 against New Mexico. The favorite has covered the past 5 meetings between these two teams. TCU wins this by a TD or more.

Those are my seven picks for this week sans NFL. You can play them any way you want. I recommend you dont play anything larger than 3 team parlays and don't put more than 5% your bankroll one any one outcome.

Hello Everyone,
Happy Thursday and happy start to the college football season! As some of you know there has been very little activity on here for the past several months, but that is because I am devoted to giving you the best free money picks I can give you and don't want to waste your time with too much rambling on about nothing. This weekend I will give you 10 'free money' picks. These will be up later today or at least by tomorrow. Don't worry you will have plenty of time to get on your 'online account' and make use of reduced juice Friday (AKA parlay Friday). This weekend will be all college picks because NFL has not kicked off yet; regular season anyway. Starting next weekend I will give you 10 picks and try to split them evenly between college and NFL; however, I am a true believe that the NFL market is much more efficient than the college market. Meaning that I believe lines are more likely to be mispriced at the college level.

Anyway, check back later on for picks and other sporting topics throughout the season. Picks will be up every Thursday/Friday giving you plenty of time to strategize and get settled before gameday on Saturday mornings. I might throw in Thursday night game every now and then. It really depends on what is happening this season.

Well it is about time for football season to get started again and I cannot wait. Once the season starts I will be putting up my weekly picks. Clausen. Is he really a Heisman candidate?

Today, over at Hot Clicks, at si.com I saw a link to a guy who listed some candidates for this years Heisman. He had Jimmy Clausen (QB at Notre Dame for those of you who don't like college football) on the list. This got me thinking about if this guy really has a shot at the Heisman. ND is coming off its worst season in history and is definitely going to make some improvement here, but the way it is these days you have to not only be the best athelete, but you have to be on one of the best teams. I found this post very interesting. As you all know, Kevin White recently departed Our Lady's university for people who like to call themselves dookies. Good job.

Anyway, I found this article about the BCS and why ND is so coveted when it comes to bowl games. Basically we have good fans who are willing to travel no matter what the circumstances. I think White sold us short during the last round of discussions regarding BCS payouts. Read link below.

In other news, I am happy that Big Brown did not win the Belmont (and the Triple Crown). Dutrow and company do not understand the signifcance or the treasure that is the Triple Crown. Sounds like a bunch of low lifes got lucky, bought some horses and think they should be handed the trophy. False! I hope this humbles them a little. This is something reserved for great men and even greater horses. I hope everyone who attended Belmont park had a good time regardless. I was not there, but I enjoyed by taking Da'Tara acroos the board! I kind of had to when the horse was named Tara, the jockey was named Alan Garcia, and Big Brown was setup for this kind of failure. I look forward to seeing Brown again in the future, perhaps against Curlin, or maybe even a rematch against Casino Drive and/or Da'Tara.

People are concerned with losing Anheuser-Busch to InBev. Not sure if the big boys are leaning one way or another, but I tell you what might help. If the good people of America who want to save it went out and bought some shares. Word is that SABMiller might be runner up choice so there might be no need for a proxy fight, but if you are worried about this grab some shares of BUD. The US dollar decline, along with other conditions, have made American companies cheap to foreign firms. I am not saying that this is bad or good, but just reality. Today, 1 Euro gets you ~$1.57. If i was InBev i might go shopping too! They already distribute Budweiser and Bud light in Canada, now they figure why not the US.

This past week we got to see Manchester United and Chelsea square off in Moscow for the Champions Leage final. I was pretty excited for the match because these are two great teams and they just wrapped up a damn close Premier League season. Good game. I just can't seem to like Ronaldo. For those of you out there who dont follow soccer too much he plays for Man. U. and has a kind of euro style mullet thing going on and he can never come through in the clutch. the final game came down to penalty shots. Ronaldo was up 3rd and when he got up there he did this stupid little stutter step thing. 1st of all, this looks stupid and i thin gives away your spot everytime, because it just gives the goalie that much more time to read your body. This totally plays to the keepers advantage. Secondly, if he made it there is a chance the ref would not allow it anyway. Needless to say, he missed, but he got very lucky and his team bailed him out. This is a guy who might get a contract that pays 280k USD every week! Ridicuous. Dont get me wrong he has talent, and i like seeing him in some one on one situations, but there is no need to give this guy that kind of dough. I will be excited to see what happens in the Euro 2008 tournament starting in a couple weeks. Always nice to have a little international competition mostly because i know the already low productivity in the european offices will fall even further. Alright folks. It has been a lazy, but good weekend in Brussels. there were some riots here, but nothing too exciting, which is a good thing.

EGYPT

Hello Everyone,
It has been a while since I posted, but hopefully some of you are checking back once in a while. I am rested and refreshed and looking to get going on some writing. Took a two week trip to Egypt, and went all around; Cairo, Abu Simbel, Aswan, (cruised up the Nile to) Luxor, and saw the Red Sea at El Gouna. Been out of touch with the world for a while, but saw that BIG BROWN (stupid name) took care of business a the Kentucky Derby. I also saw, sadly, that Eight Belles, did not make it. Always a sad affair, but part of the sacrifice that comes with the sport, just like any other.

Good luck out there if you are trying to handicap this NBA playoff season. I am not much into putting any money down on basketball, save the NCAA tournament. I will be back trying to give some more insight on the Egypt trip, the second and thirds legs of the Triple Crown, and the Champions League final coming up 1 week from today in Moscow (this should be good considering it was a fight to the finish between Man. U and Chelsea for the English crown too!).

Well Everyone I have taken a little hiatus from the sports betting world, but I am happy to announce I am back at it. Since my last post in November, I did a little travelling and sought some guidance from different experts and soothsayers around Europe. I am back with a fresh new perspective on things and plan to put my newfound wisdom to use; that means picking winners. Lucky for you I am back at it before the NFC and AFC title games.

Let me just say before I get to the picks that I think it is a foregone conclusion that New England will win the Superbowl. You may not like them, the coach, or the way they are doing it, but that is not going to stop them.

This weekend we got the Giants against the Packers and the Chargers against the Patriots. Taking a look aroud the books, the Pack are giving up anywhere from 7 to 8 points. The Patriots are giving 14 to the Chargers. Taking a quick look at these games I would like to take the favorite in both. We saw a preview of these games on September 16, 2007 and both GB and NE won ATS and the game, but there has been a lot of change since then. For one thing, the cold weather and wind is supposed to affect both games. I believe in this to a degree, but don't think it changes things drastically. I really believe that playoff games in the NFL comes down to experience, talent, and injuries. San Diego is just too banged up to compete with Brady and co. If the other Manning was at the helm for the Gmen, maybe, but not today.

Free Money College Edition

1) Michigan -4 at Michigan St., 3:30 ET
-Michigan has won the last 5 meetings and only 1 of those times has it been a victory by less than 4. After stumbling out of the gate, Michigan has gone on to win 7 straight and and 3 ATS straight. MSU had a good game against Ohio St., but then they crumbled against Iowa last week. I think Mike Hart will come out against this rival school and take the team on his back.

2) LSU -7 at Alabama, 5:00 ET
-I don't like how much the Tigers have had to gamble lately to get away with wins, but they will get the job done at Tuscaloosa. 5 still suspended for Bama, 2 for LSU. Might be a push here, but still think it is a good bet. Take the Tigers who will win ATS for the first time since September.

3) Boston College -7 vs. Florida St., 8:00 ET
-BC is way overrated and they are bound to stumble somewhere down the stretch, it is just too bad this is not the game. FSU is just not the team they were in the 90s. FSU's defense is just not going to keep up with BC's offense. The only thing that scares me is the fact that BC's pass defense is a little iffy. I wish it was at 6.5, but still some free money because it should be at 9.5.

4) Central Florida -14 vs. Marshall
-Marshall got their 1st win of the season against Rice last week. This week they return to their losing ways. UCF has only lost one game at home this season to Texas, and that was only by 3 points. Marshall is 0-4 on the road cannot handle UCF's offense.

Free Money NFL Edition:

5) San Diego -7 at Minnesota, 1:00 ET
-Over the last 3 games SD has given up an average of 9.o pts/game and put up an average of 34.7 pts. Compared to Minnesota's giving up 26.0 pts/game and only putting up 21.6 pts. LT is regaining his old form and I expect him to put in at leas 14 points, which might be enough right there to cover the spread.

6)Dallas -3 at Philadelphia, 8:15 ET
-The underdog has covered 5 straight times in this series, but that ends here. Romo and the boys will put up more than enough points to cover this field goal spread.

7) Washington -3.5 at New York Jets
-The Redskins might have gotten handled by the Patriots last week, but that could have happened to any team in the league. It will be interesting to see how they respond this week. they have the talent to beat the Jets by a couple TDs, but I just don't know if they can bounce back after a 45 point slaughter. I guess the good thing about the NFL is that they get paid either way and there is not too much hangover from the previous week. Pennington out for the Jets, which might actually help them here, but i doubt it. L. Coles is also supposed to be out. Looks like perfect game for them to get back on track and kill the Jets. Alrighty everyone, I am back from my month log vacation. I was out of the country for most of October and did not really have a chance to do my homework and give you some FREEMONEY picks, but I am back in town and thought this is the right week to get back on track and make some money. This season has been a little crazy to say the least. Do not get scared. That is the way we like it because it has the chance to make some spreads just ridiculous. For instance, last weekend Ohio St. was only favored by 3.5 over Purdue?! Are you kidding me? People are so confused out there that this line actually held up. November is the perfect time to make some money. The cream is beginning to rise to the top; don't get me wrong, there will still be some upsets, but nothing like the first couple months we had here.

Anyway, just wanted to give you an update and say to look forward for some FreeMoney Picks this weekend.

1)Ohio St. -7 at Purdue

-Simply put OSU is more than 7 points better than P.U. This will be the best defense the Big Drum Beaters have faced all season. The most points they have given up has been 14 points. Lock of the week here boys and girls. Get it while it's hot.

2)Oklahoma -11.5 vs. Texas

-The difference here is that while OU might have been looking ahead and not taking care of business against Colorado last week, Texas was not and has some seroious problems on defense. If Central Florida and Kansas St. can put up at least 32 points on Texas, then OU will have no problem. Furthermore, this is a rivalry game, but it is not the same type of rivalry we are used to; you know the tough, close, down to the last second rivalries that are so great in college football. Out of the last 10 times these teams have met, only once has the margin of victory been less than 10 points and that was 1997.

3)Central Florida -3.5 at East Carolina

-Golden knights against the Pirates. Normally I would side with the Pirates, but if there is money to be made I have to go with the Knights on this one. UCF's only loss this year was in a admirable effort against Texas. E. Carolina on the other hand has lost by 10 to Va. Tech, 7 to So. Miss, and

4) Wisonsin +2.5 at Illinois
-Um, yes Illinois is better this year.

5)Houston -5 against Miami
-Shaub and company get back on track against Miami.

3-3, not bad, but not making money either

What! ND won!!! (against the spread that is, but at this point I'll take it). Other than that, the college football weekend was crazy. Were teams just "looking ahead," as the ESPN explanation goes, or is it just signs that there is parity in college football. I give major props to the Auburn team, especially the kicker, after knocking off Florida and having to deal with Urban Suckmeyer in the swamp.** Too bad Ty Willingham could not knock off USC, that would have really completed a good weekend of fun college football. I am looking forward to being in the States for the next three weekends and watching most of the games live and in better picture than off the slingbox for a change. I am working on my picks this week, but if you just cant wait here is my pick for tonight:

Milan over Celtic tonight in Champions League. Kaka nets at least one and Milan comes away with another in. it will be a tough game at the Celtic's home, but the best they can hope for is a draw tonight.

1) Clemson -3 at Georgia Tech- 3:30 pm ET
-Georgia Tech has stumbled into their ACC season and is on a two game losing streak. Clemson out gained NC State by 406 yards last week and put up 42 points. Look for at least a touchdown victory here.

2) Penn St. -3 at Illinois- 12:00 pm ET
-Illinois getting way too much respect after beating Indiana, Syracuse, and Western Illinois. might be a close game, because that is the way Paterno plays it, but in the end the Nittany lions pull away and win by 5-10 pts.

3) Notre Dame +21.5 at Purdue- 12:00 pm ET
-I can't believe I am saying this, but this is Free Money. Notre Dame is over a 3 touchdown dog at West Lafayette. ND is getting better. Weis will continue to improve and will not allow P.U. to win by more than 21. The ND running game showed signs of life last week and I expect them to control the clock and keep the Boilermakers off the field as much as possible. Give me the points!

4) Houston -2.5 at Atlanta- 1:00 pm ET
-Cannot explain this one. All I know is FREE MONEY!

5)Indianapolis -9.5 at Denver- 4:15 pm ET
-Manning and company will cover here after losing ATS the last two games. Denver got their first decent test of the season against Jacksonville last week and it did not go well. Expect the same here.

6)****New England -7 at Cincinnati- 8:30 pm ET MONDAY NIGHT
-please note that there are many different lines out there for this game. I have seen some as big as New England -9. I only say the -7 is free money. I would lay up to 8.5 points, but no more than that. I would wait until Sunday to play this game.

Week 3 Results

Another rough week. Overall I went a pathetic 3-4 ( .429). In college games South Florida doubled up the spread and won by 27. They are looking pretty good and might be the fashionable upset pick of the week when they face West Virginia this Friday. I see a close game, but don't see them winning. Oregon also covered after Stanford kept it close for the first half. I got it wrong with Georgia Tech and Wisconsin. I really can't believe that Wisonsin struggled against Iowa.

On the pro side of things Washington did nothing in the 2nd half and Favre came out and showed the Chargers why he is still playing in the NFL. All I can say is that I am glad Arizona scored 17 in the 4th quarter or it would have been another 1 win weekend.

This brings my overall average to 47.1% winners. This week will be better.

Free Money Picks for the Weekend of September 21 & 22

Free Money College Edition
1) South Florida -13.5 vs. North Carolina, 12:00 pm ET
-South Florida goes in to Auburn and comes away with a 26-23 win. This newcomer to Division 1 football took out a big time SEC traditional power and now they get to face a weak North Carolina team that has lost to Virginia and East Carolina (their only win coming against James Madison). I am very bullish on this Big East team and look for them to win by at least 17 against this basketball school.

2) Georgia Tech -3.5 at Virginia, 12:00 pm ET
-Tashard Choice is listed as probable for the game at Virginia this Saturday, but even if he is not at 100% he will probably score two times as the Jackets take on Virginia at home. The Cavaliers were out rushed by 202 yards when they lost to Wyoming by 20 and I expect the same kind of gam here. I see GA tech getting back on the winning track after a slip up last week at Boston College.

3)Wisconsin -7 vs. Iowa, 8:00 pm ET
-Wisconsin has had a shaky couple of weeks after their decent start against Washington St., but this is the start to their Big Ten season and will look to go out and dominate a team that lost to Iowa St. last week (yes that is kind of a rivalry game, but come on, Ferentz is getting paid to lose that kind of game).

4) Oregon -17 at Stanford, 10:00 pm ET
-I underestimated Oregon last week when they made it pretty obvious that they have something going on in Duck Land. If Fresno St. can't keep it around 17, there is no way that the Cardinal will. Dixon will shine in this game. Easy win for the Ducks.

5) Arizona +9 at Baltimore, 1:00 pm ET
-Steve McNair may be ready to play again, but so is Leinart and Larry Fitzgerald. Baltimore couldn't cover the same spread against NYJ last week and they are not going to get it done here.

6) Washington -3.5 vs. Ney York Giants, 4:15 pm ET
-Eli Manning against Jason Campbell; always going to take Campbell here at home right after he went up to Philly pulled out an 8 point win. NYG is off to an 0-2 start and they will be 0-3 before they get to face some weaker competition (Atlanta, San Fran, and Miami). OL are getting injured for Washington, but they beat the Giants here.

7) San Diego -5 at Green Bay, 1:00 pm ET
-San Diego faced Chicago and New Engalnd in their first two games. Green Bay won against New York (Giants) and Philly. LT finally gets to run against a mediocre defense. Yes, GB has the NFL's longest regular season winning streak, but it ends here. Favre will have to wait to win number 150 against someone else.

And there you have it. 7 free money picks. I also like ND +11 against Michigan St., but then again I am biased, and Georgia straight up win against an over rated South Carolina team. Anwyay, I a back down to .500 after week 2, so I am looking for a big week 3 profit. Good luck out there.

A Beating

Took a beating this past week as the football gods were obviously mad at me for something. I only won 1 game out of my 3 picks for college ball as Kentucky upset Louisville and Oregon showed that they might actually be worth looking at this season. In the NFL I lost both the New Orleans game and the Seattle game. New Orleans really surprised me by getting blown out again. I am not sure what happened to the team from last season, but maybe Reggie did a little too much partying over the off season and not enough focus on getting better; either way this week was horrible. I am still working on this weeks games, which should be up Friday morning. Good luck.

Hello out there again. Well the Irish lost again this past weekend at Penn St. and unless our O-line gets any better it might be a very long season, but we have a real shot playing at the Big House this saturday. I really like the Irish +7.5, but with the way these two teams have played there is no way I am going to touch that game. Anyway, on to the good stuff.

Free Money College Edition:

1)Louisville -6.5 @ Kentucky -->7:30 pm et

-I will agree that Kentucky has a good offense and will definitely keep up with Louisville for a while (note: the over at 77 looks pretty good too), but in the end Brian Bohm and his offense will put up a win of at least one touchdown. Louisville has won the last four meetings, with the closest game being a 7 point victory in '05. Make if 5 straight for the Cardinals.

2)Fresno St. +16.5 @ Oregon -->7:00 pm et

-Congrats to Oregon for putting on a beating last week at Michigan, but that big win is a lot less impressive than the job Pat Hill did down at Texas A&M, taking his bulldogs into OT. Oregon has won the last 5 meetings, but the largest margin of defeat was a 7 point win last year.

3)Florida -8 vs. Tennessee -->3:30 pm et

-If Tenn, can't keep it close at California, then they definitely can't keep it close down at the Swamp. Tebow will have his first start in a big time SEC game, but Coach Urban has him ready for this. This is usally a very close game, but not this year. Looking for a 10-16 point win by Florida.

Free Money NFL Edition:

1)New Orleans -3.5 @ Tampa Bay --> 1:00 pm et

-I feel that either the fix is on or Tampa Bay went out and got Joe Montana. Is there really a possibility that Tampa Bay keeps this one close. New Orleans played last Thursday and will be a little more rested after coming out of the gate a little slow against the Colts. Bush improves in this game where Tampa Bay is missing "Cadilac" Williams. These priates don't have the power or weaponry to compete in this one.

2)Seattle -3 @ Arizona --> 4:05 pm et

-The Seahawks are notoriously bad in away games, but this one is at least a little closer to home and they are playing against the Cardinals. They have a pretty sweet new stadium out there in Arizona, but they are still a little young to compete with Hasselbeck and Alexander.

I might put New Orleans and Louisville in a parlay and then bet every game individually.

We (the Irish of Notre Dame) really need to win this one against Michigan. I believe that this game is critical one. We don't win here, we might not see a win until Navy.

Week 1 Results

Out of my free money picks of the week i went 4-1 last weekend. Winning the Texas, Oklahoma, New England, and San Diego games. My lone loser was Georgia, in a game they los against the spread (ATS), as well as straight up (SU). Still can't believe that they decided to not got for it on 4th down when they were down by a TD, but oh well.

Weekend of Sept. 8-9.

Free Money College edition:

1)Take Georgia (-3.5) over South Carolina-4:15 ET
-The game is at Georgia and Spurrier is busy complaining to school officials because they won't admit some recruits who can't read the menu at McDonald's (http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=251152)

2)Take Oklahoma (-10.5) over Miami-12:00 ET
-They both won big opening games (OU bigger), but that Marshall defense is hardly the defense the 'Canes will be facing at Oklahoma. Kyle Wright (QB for Miami) is questionable for the game and his back-up, was 9 for 21 passing against Marshall. Doesn't look good for the visitors from Florida.

3)Take Texas (-8.5) over TCU-7:00 ET
-TCU had a good game against Baylor, but then again that was Baylor and it might as well be the University High school team from Waco (note: without Ladainian Tomlinson, NFL football player for the San Diego Chargers, grew up in Waco, and went to Universtiy High School). Colt "45" McCoy and the rest of the team will be up for this one and show they actually might belong in the top 15 after that weak performance against Arkansas St.

Free Money NFL edition:

1)Take San Diego (-6) over Chicgao-4:15 ET
-San Diego is focused on beating New England in week 2, but they are not overlooking the Bears. They want the superbowl this year and the Bears will be their first victim before a great game next week at Foxboro.

2) Take New England (-6) over New York Jets-1:00 ET
-Yes, Tom Brady missed part of practice Thursday, but he is a new dad and is 30 yers old; give him a break. He has started 108 straight games, the third-longest active streak among quarterbacks, trailing only Brett Favre (257) and Peyton Manning (156), and is not going to stop now. I like Thomas Jones with the Jets, but that is not going to get it done here.

Well, there you have it. I am not going to lie, I'm a little scared here because i have picked 5 favorites. That is kind of like no one taking a card at the blackjack table. If I was in a part of the world where sports investing is legal, I would bet on each individual game and then one parlay with Georgia and Oklahoma. Take it for what you will. For those of you following at home I will post results and keep a record of how I do throughout the season.
